Hello My Old Heart

"Hello My Old Heart"- The Oh Hello’s

I once had a roommate for 15 hours.

I had just moved to Texas and was sleeping on a friends couch. After a few months of far too much free time, I found a job. I found friends. I found a place to live. As I was transitioning into being a full-time Texan, I met Josh. He had a beard and talked about living in Japan one day. He was moving in while I was moving on. On our one and only night under the same roof, we decided to share some beers and a story or two.

He talked about playing music, and the joy it brought him. He suggested I listen to the band he was currently playing with, The Oh Hello’s. He walked me through themes and ideas of each song, sharing the heartbeat behind the harmonies. Over the past few years, these songs have accompanied almost every playlist made and remain some of my favorites.

Last night, they played in the mountains of Colorado. I stood in line and looked up at the marquee. “The Oh Hello’s- SOLD OUT.” 1,200 people crammed into a theater to watch musical magic. After a few hugs and some quick catching up, I stood and watched Josh, my 15 hour roommate, play the part of rockstar. I wish I could describe the energy and passion that this talented group of people displayed. A true sight to see.

Of all of the bands and artists I have recommended over the years, these folks are at the top of the list. Take some time and explore their lyrics. Clap along in the car. Sing at the top of your lungs. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Cheers.

  • 14 years old: I'm young but I know what I want. This isn't that hard, I'm all grown up already and have everything figured out.
  • 17 years old: Well, this is a little harder than I thought. School is almost ending. What am I going to do with my life?
  • 21 years old: What the fuck is going on? Where are my socks?
Do you ever just crave someone’s presence? like you would literally be happy just sitting next to them & it could be completely silent.
